Foods to Avoid If You Sickle Cell And How To Increase Red Blood Cells

  • High fructose corn syrup – High-fructose corn syrup is a common sweetener in sodas and fruit-flavored drinks. As use of high-fructose corn syrup has increased, so have levels of obesity and related health problems.  High fructose is found in baked goods, canned fruits, dairy products and most sweetened beverages.

  • Aspartame – Aspartame is a white, odourless powder, approximately 200 times sweeter than sugar, used in a number of foodstuffs throughout the world and has been linked to obesity.  Aspartame is converted by the body into formaldehyde, a cancer causing chemical.
